First Against Tthe Wall

Is the Bill of Rights just a "bill of goods"?

Proof, that the current wave of so-called "patriotism" that is sweeping this country is little more than a fashionable knee-jerk reaction to the events of September 11th can be found in the alarming number of cowardly traitors among these later-day "patriots" who are willing to give up rights secured by the Constitution of the United States in order to feel safe.

While you may not believe as I do, that a true patriot stands ready to defend his country against its government, certainly no one who aspires to the title could possibly believe that it is the duty of a "patriot" to rubber-stamp efforts by the government to dismantle the Constitution, or to give a free ride to those who are PAID to protect us (and our rights).

Personally, I find it hard to believe that anyone who has taken an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, both foreign and domestic, would even suggest that they be allowed to circumvent it for their own convenience, but "law enforcement" does seem to be sniveling that it needs more "power" these days. The problem is, that portion of the Constitution known as the Bill of Rights was specifically intended to CURB the power of government, and to SECURE the rights of the people.

It is the Bill of Rights that makes this country unique. Without it, we're just a random collection of refugees whose ancestors were thrown out of some of the best countries in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East. Were our "Founding Fathers" (who promulgated the Bill of Rights) nothing more than a bunch of criminals trying to get-over on the law? Was Lincoln wrong? Did the "Honored Dead" who gave the "full measure" to preserve a nation conceived in liberty actually die in vain? Are the graves at Arlington filled with poor deluded fools who died for some outmoded concept? Were the TRUE PATRIOTS who gave their lives to send the terrorist scum on Flight 93 to hell concerned about their own safety?

I don't know about anyone else, but I am tired of hearing the Bill of Rights blamed for the laziness/incompetence of law enforcement. I, for one, am not prepared to even waive, much less surrender, rights that TRUE AMERICAN PATRIOTS have died for, and I believe that anyone in law enforcement who is unable and/or unwilling to discharge their duties within the scope of the Constitution should be immediately handed their walking papers.
